A Special Night...

This from the man himself, at the end of the evening. I believe he said : "Well, this really was quite a special evening I think." To which the crowd agreed by cheering enthusiastically. It made up for my missing Friday night's gathering. I was glad I'd
made it this time. :)
I'm trying to articulate my thoughts, to capture the moments, describe the evening for
you so that you can feel it as if you were there. I'm failing. But let me post this for now just to let all know that I made it! There were some funny moments, such as the fact that I stood right next to Glen Ballard for quite a bit, and pretended not to know who he was so that he could relax and enjoy the music. In fact, I behaved very enthusiastically for Simon , Mikey, and Rachel so that he could see the reaction they get from the audience. Just in case.:)

Ok, this is the add-on:
I also met Gary, Stephanie, Metalchick, Alecia, Molly, Sue, I Am One ( I think), Justin, Dan L, his friend Allen(?), and others that I didn't recognize in person but may have known online. Would like to have met any others. :)
Let's see...
I appreciate that there are people that enjoy the posts about the concerts. I am the same way! :D
So I'm trying to remember little details...
Heheh, Gary and I were outside when a living, brightly flashing juggernaut slowly passed by. A mass of people, a swarming mob. In the center is a tall man, a gentle smile on his face, patient and kind. Taking up the pens offered and signing what is put in front of him. It is Pete.
He was literally only about 3 or 4 feet away, something like that. The image amused me, and I couldn't help but call out in a fake but pretty passable English accent :
" Why, what an accomidating man he is!"
And Pete looked at me, and laughed/chuckled. :)

If I remember any more little things I'll post them. I thought that was pretty funny, cute.
OT: Rose Hill Drive needs to change their name. In my opinion. i and others have been unable to remember the name. Even though it was in context of discussing how damned good they are. When people are discussing how great a band is and yet no one can remember what their name, makes me think it's a good idea.
They got the most enthusiastic response I have ever heard for an unknown opening band. And this was at the Hollywood Bowl.
*Yet another update* Remembering something Pete said that was beautiful, I thought.
Pete did Blue, Red, and Gray with the ukelele, and it was gorgeous. Truth be known,
it made me cry a little. I was just so happy. I never thought I'd hear him do that song. And I was so close! The ukele sounded so sweet...
Anyway, when the song was over he said:
" You know, when I first wrote that song it was a rough place in my life, and I wasn't loving every minute
of the day - it was really a sarcastic song. ( Sings I love every minute of the day in a sarcastic sounding way, the audience chuckles)
But recently, I've come to feel differently. It's like for the first time in my life I'm allowing myself to be happy, finally, and to feel that every moment
IS precious and beautiful. ( audience whoops and cheers when he says this) ...So I no longer hate doing this song. It's actually a rather sweet little song."

Anyway, I am trying to be as accurate as possible, and I hope I am succeeding. :)

Hi Lisa,

Wasn't last night incredible? Such a great feeling in the room and so unbelievable to be so close for so long to all of those wonderful people. I wish I had recognized you and taken a moment to say hello.

Oh Chris, I was so disappointed when I read at Rachel's that you'd been there, and I missed you!
Wasn't it also incredible that Pete and Rachel felt it too? The feeling was real and mutual.
I now recall that this had been written at his blog a long time ago.:)

Hi Lisa,
Wow! I didn't know you said that to Pete! That must've been while I was debating whether to go for asking for an autograph too. Did you see how closely behind him I was? I think I was 1/2 a foot away! I could've touched his shoulder. Stradasphere said I should've grabbed his butt, of course I wouldn't go that far! Just feeling the vibes of his presence was good enough for me, I'm still feeling shaky!
I can't believe that what I thought about the autograph hounds turns out to be true! That pisses me off that people would use Rachel's show just to get to Pete!

I thought you did meet Chris, he's the one that offered to take me back to the Hotel. He was very nice, he even made sure I got my car out of the beach parking lot OK. Thanks again Chris!

Again, it was great to meet you. hopefully we can meet again!

I hate to say it, but that must have been a different Chris! Unfortunately, I missed both of you!

Glad another Chris took care of metalchick, tho!

Lisa, I am so glad we got to meet and that you made it to the show. Was that not a kick in the pants?

I have to agree with you on Rose Hill Drive. I was astounded by their set, and I'm not a hard rock type, but it grabbed me by the balls. I too have had trouble remembering their name.

That was indeed a funny moment with Pete as he passed by, and I know he knew you from his blog Lisa.

Chris it was very nice of you to come up after the show. What a night ay? So nice to meet you.

I just got back from Staples, where I purchased the long push pins so I could mount my autographed book in the shadowbox frame, a really nice item to remember this amazing weekend by.

Heheh, I'm glad you witnessed it with me, Gary. :)
And I think you must be right, as much as I changed my pic all the time. ;)
You are so lucky, Gary, to have all those pics with him, I swear!
And yep, Metal,it was true. Unfortunately. But how nice Pete and Rachel and everyone were!
And it's neat to realize how long we actually have all been blogging together. That we have all gotten so close.:)

Dear Lisa,

That's really moving, what Pete said about the song...I've been thinking that, too, when he sings it now. So happy you were there, dear!
And your profile photo is the most beautiful yet.

Hugs,

Lisa,
WOW!! I am so happy for you, and all my friends, at last nights show......it is magical. It's like Rachel and Pete are the good fairies bringing magic to all the people he he! Or something like that. I know how you feel about the tears coming.....I got like that at Joe's pub, and I think that Rachel caught that...she looked right over at me, and smiled...she must of thought, "poor demented girl, tsk tsk"...Anyway, I personally, feel very strongly about Blue Red and Grey.....I know I was one of the bloggers, who kept requesting it from the original ITA shows....I remember literally welling up with tears, when he brought out the Ukelee, on that show...and he played it for the first time, ever! Now, it is a staple in all his live performances for ITA on the road....amazing!

Yes, I do think Pete and Rachel feel the magic too. How could they not?

Heheh, I'm glad I wasn't the only one to tear up over that one Sue! I felt a little embarrassed, shy over being in public.:)
But I'm glad Pete appreciates it now, too.
He should, fer God's sake. It's truly sweet. :)
And Brina, I relate to how you feel, what Pete said.
Thanks for the compliment on my photo. Summed up how I felt today, and improvement mood-wise for sure.

Hey Lisa! I'm so glad you were at the show, as I've been saying on everyone else's blog it sounds like it was a great one. I saw a pic of you and metalchick with Mikey on her blog...he is such a sweetheart! So happy you guys got to meet him and get a picture.

You know, it's funny about the Glen Ballard thing. I don't even know the guy but have for a very long time had this distaste for him, which is completely unfair and silly. I think I may have told you, but I am also a very big Dave Matthews Band fan...have been for years. They are the band I've followed around endlessly for the past decade (almost) -- and Glen got a LOT of crap a few years ago within the DMB fanbase, because he produced and co-wrote what most consider as DMB's worst album ever, (Everyday) - very poppy and "sold out", especially for the jammy band that they are. I guess he got a lot of crap for that for the wrong reasons, he was only donig his job, and of course is known more for working with pop artists, so people should have expected it. I haven't been as much into DMB this past year (gee, I wonder why...with all the ITA/Who craziness) so it's easier to look at it from an outsider's perspective and realize that it really is a bit nutty to have given the guy such a hard time. I tell ya though, some of those hardcore DMB fans really can't stand him. ...But I think they are more upset with the fact that DMB hasn't really put out any phenomenal albums ever since working with Ballard. Weird thing.

...and I'm rambling. lol being stuck on campus in Brooklyn will do that to you.

Hope you had an excellent time at the show. Drop me a line on my blog sometime.

Hm, I've of course commented elsewhere about the gig, but I agree with you about Rose Hill Drive, about the name. As much as one would like to think, "it's all about music, f*** advertising" and up-and-coming band NEEDS to create an image where people connected the sound with the name.

Heheh, the faces moved, that was cute, Gina! :)
That's cool that you guys agree with me about Rose Hill Drive. Forgettable name for an unforgettable band. At least they have that potential.
I read Pete's diary, excellent! Thanks for pointing it out, Sue! :)
Sara Beth, will do. Will come by.
And I hear you about Glenn Ballard and DMB, people can be such fanatics sometimes! Jeez!
Maria, yep, they do need to change their name to something that will
connect them. Tried to think of a name for them just now but couldn't.
What about something simple like "The Bastards" hehe ...Although I think there is a band called Los Bastardos. Vein. The Tempted.
Hehe...

What about "those" Bastards?
Such as "Those Bastards are playing at the Whisky Saturday."
Hehe. That's not bad. Those Bastards are touring with the Who, what a break for them! Butthey deserve it!:)

Lisa,
what a great post, and seeing all the responses for the happy people you were surrounded by is just so nice to read. We get our Who fix in a month, so much to go through before then, but I get what you're all saying about how wonderful it must have felt.

I think the best part, aside from the joy it brought all of my blogger friends, is the joy Pete seems to be feeling right now. He has never fully felt happy in life, and it's nice to see him finally joyful.

A-M makes a great point. Not only are we fans given so much by these gigs, but it truly seems that Pete gets something special from them as well. He honestly did not seem like he wanted to stop the other night!

Still trying to decide if I should make the trek to Palm Springs to see the Who on Saturday after missing the Bowl shows last weekend. I'm still savoring Tuesday, you know what I mean?

Lisa,
Just in case you don't make it back to my old post about the novel house, it is in a nice neighbourhood. It is one block in front of our High Park, which is kind mof like Central Park. Unfortunately, my colleague thinks it will be bought, torn down, so that a much larger house can be built on the lot. This happens a lot in our neighbourhood, which has some prime parkside real estate. Too bad- it has tremendous character.

As the Barenaked Ladies once sang, If I Had A Million Dollars, I'd buy you a house...

Now that makes sense, I was figuring it had to be something like that -kinda like a house here in La Jolla or something. :)
