Out Of Control (not really)!

The last time I felt this way, sort of desperate, sad, scared - I wound up drinking and home perming. The drunken home perm fiasco. In fact, to the right, you'll see my current blog photo, with long, flowing bangs. This isn't a very old photo, yet it must be pre-drunken home perm. My bangs went with the home perm. I wore kerchiefs on me 'ead aftwards, as evidenced in this stunning previous profile photo:

Yep.
Anyway, I've heard it said that when women are going through hard times in their life- times where they feel things aren't in their control- they tend to do something drastic to their hair. It was in context of Brittany Spears' head shaving incident. But I know this is true. And I immediately thought of my own recent experiments.

Well, I am now feeling this way again. Recognizing it was good, I didn't do any hair cutting or drastic actions, but I did have some fun recently experimenting with temporary dyes.

Another one:

A drunk man followed me onto the beach and then all the way on my walk yesterday.
I got a lot of attention yesterday with this hair,I wasn't prepared for that.
Immediately afterwards (after extricating myself from the friendly homeless guy)I went and got something to tone it down. It was pretty, but more flamboyant than I
wanted.
When my hair was wet, temporary illusion, it suddenly looked very dark. This
was something I'd not ever tried, to go darker with my hair. I turned the webcam
on and snapped a few pics:

One more (excuse the old pajama top in the photos - what better to dye in?):

- - -

*Note* I'm growing my bangs out. I miss the long hair in front-this is how far it's grown since the perm-burn in front.. :(
So should I go brunette? Like the illusion above? Or go back to dark blonde hair? I'm feeling dark with my mood, so I guess I'm wanting to show it with my hair. I have to go to divorce court in a couple of days, maybe there's a subconscious desire to throw off my ex, surprise him...Hmmm....
Anyway,
Hope all's well with everyone! Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's out there!:)xoxoxo

Were you trying Rachel's smile experiment with the homeless guy? Can be dangerous, to one's wallet, to even make eye contact much less smile! ;-)

I often see women going for a drastic hair change when they hit a significant birthday event. Makes sense for other reasons as well. I cut about 10-12" of my hair about two years ago and donated it to Locks of Love. Kept it short for a while, but as you noticed, I'm letting it grow again. I've also gone a little darker with my hair as well.

I like the red, but I also thought the darker color brought out your eyes a little more. Up to you, which do you like better? And hair is a great thing - it can always be changed! And for the most part, it grows back!

Lisa,
Living well is the best revenge. I would go with something soft and elegant, personally, something that is so subtle that one would know you've changed something, but can't put a finger on exactly what it is.

Be well, kiddo!

Just saw your note on the "green monster" blog post from PT's Place.
Energy/prayer for good outcomes go with you from us! Been there, too, in first marriage of 17 years. Second one is still going thru the horrors. #2 left us virtually bankrupt, so I wish you all the best - and for legal "truths" to be told. My solemn vow, "there ain't gonna be a # 3" ;o)

Prayers, blessings, love,

You look absolutely striking in each photo! Serious! The bangs surprised me (somehow I never even knew!), but I like them and then I remember wanting to grow my own out. That was years ago.

And more years ago than that, I did a kind of social experiment with hair dye. First, with a curly bob in London, I dyed or I became a peroxide blonde and I looked dummer than dumb, a fawn in headlights, really extra stupid I looked. I attracted men that wore medallians and so I promptly dyed (and straightened) the bob red. A kind of copper. I ended up being acknowledged by young couples with babies, and with people who had red or 'ginger' hair. And I got so down-to-earth drunk one night (not only one, but that I can recall with the copper-do); except the next morning I was having my portrait taken. For family back home here; and so I had a HANGOVER in the picture shoot and forever I hang in a five -by-seven frame, in my aunt's living room, with copper bob and smudged mascara, grinning to pretend I feel so down to earth and glad all over.

THEN I dyed the bob a plum color which only got me laughs from real punks and read pop-wanna bees. I was no trend setter, so I at last discovered black. Then, every divorcee aged 40+ noticed me, like lines of academics on the trains with newspapers, they'd bend a page and nod in consilatory (I cannot spell right now) approval.

THEN a friend had to cut my hair nearly bald. I'd fried it nearly off, so she saved me and the experiement closed and I've had my own hair and color since.

The dye-trip and bob cut definitely began at the end of a man, by the way. And cuts have not been off limits in that regard, since.

so, cheers to your hair and to what's left of mine.

and may we prosper as bright as your grin.

Well, being the Hairstylist that I am, I would go with the dark blonde with some red highlights, I feel that the dark is not complimentary. I have corrected many hair because my clients have come in and said, "I had a few glasses of wine" and thought "I could fix this!". Home perm is scary, kudos to you for doing so.

all the best to you xx grace

Hi Lisa
Well whatever your colour, nothing takes away the fact that you are a beautiful woman, and have a very very sweet smile, so...that being said, I quite like the dark look but that's because before I went white much too early, my own hair was nearly black so I have a preference for it. However, the soft dark blonde is gentle and kind to tired eyes if you are having an off day. Very dark can be very harsh unless you compensate with lots of make up, soooo, I'd go for the strawberry blonde look as a conclusion.

I love it, I love hearing about these
hair stories -it's nice to read that I'm not the only one going red or getting perms. :)
It's funny, yesterday my neighbor, a younger hairstylist, came out of her house when she saw me and said "I noticed your hair is darker - it looks better! I like it!" lol
She is pale blonde.
Thanks Cathy, Anne Marie, Tink,
Gina, Grace, Val! ;) Love you all!

Hey Lady Lisa!
Just read the latest post. Glad that the day before 'da Judge brought some glimmers of hope and satisfaction. It was weird...the morning I saw your Pete blog note, I had accidentally clicked on the comments for "Green Monsters" instead of the current "Operas." There at the bottom was your post about the impending, scary court date. I know, I know ... no coincidences ;o)

I had green hair once. It was in high school (around 1972) after a try to fix a bad bleach job disaster. It was pure torment. lol My hair was white blonde as a child and gradually went brown with lots of reddish pigment. It's so strange what we do to our hair, sometimes. I have some real disasters trying to "save $" No more ;o)

I, too, agree that some red highlights in the dark blondish are very flattering, As a matter of fact, the first photo (with the pretty scarf) is the one I like best of you. You do have a lovely, symmetric face and beautiful eyes. No bangs, to me, looks wonderful. But, you gotta be happy with it. (I love gina's new photo. Stunning!)

I've never tried shaved/bald. hm. It could be an interesting experiment. (with backup wigs.) hehe!

Well, Lisa ... keep that lovely chin up and hope that the pain will ease some, with time, for you. It did eventually for me. Some days are so very good. Some days are so very shitty. ;o)

Hi Lisa,
How goes it? Hope all has been as good as it can be under the circumstances.
Thanks for this because I can never tell how much bangs change my own apperance and wow they radically changed your's! I like both but I know for myself the versality of long hair is unrivaled--that's why I lkie wigs. A curly Q like me would be a slave to the salon with bangs!

Lots of love

hi Lisa,

I like you with red hair (maybe with a few (very subtle) highlights and bangs (not outright bangs, maybe sort of wispier bangs?) It looks nice and thick!!

It's nice to see your smiles!

- Lucy. (my hair's been a pain lately -- been shedding too much again. Must be hormones. Seems to come and go in cycles. You can't really tell from my pictures, but my hair used to be a WHOLE LOT thicker. And I also don't know what to do with my hair in general (either stylewise or color) Too grey (if I leave it completely natural).

Hey, your hair looks pretty!~
I didn't notice any thinness at all! :)
Seriously!

And thanks for the hair compliments , I think my hair is thinning a little in the bangs area.
From when I burned it recently, I guess. It appears to be growing in thinner. Was thinking of trying womens rogaine.:(

Hi dear, I'm finally catching up on your blog. And I like your hair dark but also the "red" color is gorgeous on you!

I am sorry that you had to go to divorce court. When I got mine, we did it through the collaborative divorce process which meant a ton of meetings, but no court date.

I feel for you.

Big hugs!
Brina (also dealing with heartbreak, see my blog for hints, but no real facts)
