Are You There God? Um, Hello?

(*Note:partial repost)
Can I get your cell phone # ? You never answer the home phone.I can't seem to get ahold of you anymore. You've changed. Are you seeing someone else?
Here's what I was just thinking , and I had to write it :
Think about the people who have REALLY affected history. The guy that invented cocaine( NOT the coca plant, but cocaine). The guy who invented and fired the first gun. Etc.I'm sure these folks didn't know what they were unleashing upon the world, good or bad. If I recall, they both thought they were helping mankind. They DID, but they also opened a Pandora's box, created a monster.
One thing they DID do, no matter what side of the fence you are on, is affect mankind PROFOUNDLY.What if God IS a higher power, and exists? But what if God is like some woman that had fifty kids and can't keep track of WHAT the hell is going on with her kids? 20 are in jail, 10 are selling drugs, 2 are in college defying the odds, the rest are pregnant or prostituting or both...
What if God is real, he was doing an experiment one day just because he was bored, and everything got allll out of control? I'm talking about the biblical idea of creation in one week.Wonder how long it took to invent cocaine, or the first gun? A week?
Things got out of control.
Maybe God thought he'd be watching his little dolls that he made in his image forever, and things went horribly wrong. WE went horribly wrong, and now He can't keep track of us anymore than the guy that invented the gun or cocaine could keep track of all the crack users and armed robbers that came after these inventions? IF there is a God, I rather think this is what has happened.
Maybe God's mother or Father came in, caught him working on his project, making a little world with people, whupped his ass and put him to bed without supper ( since God has such a bad temper, maybe he got it from HIS father), and we wound up in the cosmic trash to fend for ourselves?

Just a thought. : )

nabonidus,

Here we are in the cosmic trash, "one of God's own prototypes...Too weird to live, and too rare to die". I like this entry. Especially as I pictured us all being made with white glue, glitter, and macaroni.

:)

I can see myself being made of dry macaroni...

Well, I'm an atheist...but as far as hypotheses go I rather like yours, that god rather irresponsibly created people and then it went awry and he was sent to bed for being bad and we were left to our own devices.

The Christian idea is that god is omnipotent but he also loves people like a father loves his children, so he gave people free will. And if people decide not to follow God's will he can't do anything about it because they have free will. And the evil things happen because people are not following his will. But if people have the free will to do anything and God can't stop it, God is not omnipotent. A bit of a contradiction there the way I see it

Thanks, jack, glad you liked this! :)

Hey, E.L.,Thanks!
And I don't really buy the idea either.
I've tried very hard to go along with my friends, family, etc. on the God issue and I just couldn't do it.
I tried because I saw how faith in God seems to help so many people.

Yep,

Although I have no personal belief in God I don't go about shouting that religions should be eradicated. For one thing I do not have the right to do that and secondly, as you said, faith brings so much consolation to a lot of people.

I guess it (religion/faith) is a personal thing, something I try not to discuss with others because I feel somewhat unqualified since I'm not a "believer". I do get rather put off by people who profess to be "Born Again" then go around treating others like crap. There's a guy in my office like that, a very talented programmer, very right-wing, Woman belongs in the kitchen, you must accept the Lord as your personal saviour etc. etc. and then have him be so judgemental on what sort of person I am. I once went to lunch and he was in El Pollo Loco in front of me in line, and he turned around and noticed it was me, then turned around without saying even hello. A total hypocrite if you ask me.

To each his own, I sound like I have judged him don't I. I believe that our lives must have a purpose, that we should make the best of it while we are here. Do unto others etc.

Very thought provoking post, thanks.

Gary,

I agree with you on the religious rightwingers. It's said right in the bible "love your neighbour as you love yourself" and that a neighbour is every person. Yet these ones only accept people who think alike to them.

Hi Gary,
That guy in your office, that story
totally sums it up perfectly. Christian self-righteous hypocrite.
#1 thing that irks me about Christianity. The hypocrisy.

And you are right, too, E.L, my former mother -in -law had that particular tendency. The snobby "I'm a christian and you aren't, therefore you are dog doo and I don't want anything to do with you" attitude.
I hate that. :)

Well, I practiced Buddhism for, I dunno, um ... seven years? And the beliefs are pretty nailed to me, to the point I'd reached: acknowledgement of all things, as in accountability, to an awareness that what had happened wouldn't have existed were it not for the acknowledgement. The opposite, maybe the yang for the purpose here, is that nothing exists, nothing of what's happening is actually happening.

On God, I did take a course in "Literature an the Bible", which entailed reading the whole text and accepting each story as a story. The stories were spine chilling. Journeys, sacrifice, rape, murder, famine, battles--great drama. Before this, I took a course in Islam to become fascinated by the similarity of the stories in each text. What I don't understand is that one faith doesn't acknowledge the text of another to learn even that much; more ironic is the lack of readers of any one faith of their given text.

I couldn't have read either text without the assistance of a full college course in each, so I don't know why I'm complaining people should at least read, if they believe as they swear they do, their book.

By the way, the "funny" post nearly cracked my computer. I crashed, and this is a MAC. Ghosts maybe. :-)

Hi Ginab!
Heh, it's the worst video ever created by anyone on earth, that's why it almost cracked your 'puter!LOL

But you reminded me of something:
You notice the recurring theme to all these religions of ancient times are sacrifice? That alone is a clue. I think the whole sacrifice thing was probably some Paganistic thing to get better crops, etc.Maybe sacrificing to many Gods/Goddesses. But it evolved into the biblical notions later.
The sacrificing lambs and such.
All those old religions, you gots ta
kill somethin' before you get any favor from your God.:)
Always wondered about that.lol
I understand the concept, I just don't believe in it.xoxoLisa

My dad being a priest and all, I read the old testament as a kid, and I agree with Gina: as stories they are chilling. Murder, mayhem, famines, battles, sacrifice etc. So much so that I am surprised a kid would be allowed to read it. I think one reason as to why muslims and christians do not acknowledge each others' holy books is that both maintain that *their* holy book is direct announcement from God. So despite the similarities the other book cannot be true because there couldn't be two direct announcements from God, could there? Hm, maybe the answer is pantheism. Pantheists are always willing to adopt new deities.

If anyone is for a bit of comedy, here's a rather interesting and definitely irreverent interpretation of what it's *actually* like up in paradise:

It's the "Pete & Dud In Heaven" one.

nabonidus,

Yup, that's "My Andrew" as in my boyfriend. He's got a great sense of humor. A little crazy at times. If you check out the Borgeoishington links on my blog, that is his web comic.

nabonidus,

That word verification bug was a real pain yesterday, I wonder what caused that? At that point I also tried to look at E.L.' s blog and just got shown her source code, which was nice and everything, but not as nice as seeing the actual blog.

The drummer in the picture is "Beano" Baggot from the movie Still Crazy. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend, it's hilarious. ("If men are from Mars and Women are from venus, then drummers are from Pluto...")

As far as INTJ: http://similarminds.com/jung.html

It's a personality type that is a result from taking this test. (My result, actually.) The really long post was pretty much what had been on my mind that day, which was more than a little self-indulgent. :) I'm not too bothered if no one pays it any attention. It was just one of those things that I felt like putting up there for anyone who wants to step into my head.

I have to admit, I've already listened to your post with the guitar playing. Have you tried going to lighter gauge strings? Also, you should probably get the neck checked out, if it's still a problem...

Keep at it, though, and show us some more when you get a chance.

Heh, you nailed the problems, the neck and the strings - I'm actually going to be getting a new guitar, but yep, the strings are not only brand new, but they are realistically, literally, probably a centimeter to a half-inch away from the neck. It's that bad.

Oh, also, lol these clips are the same thing, to me -I am really putting them up for myself, I'm learning a lot from watching myself. :)
